The Betty G. Headley award annually honours essays written by upper year undergraduate students, which are distinguished by their eloquence, originality, and persuasive power. The financial awards are $1,500 for a course-related essay and $500 for a personal essay. All submissions are reviewed by a Selection Committee comprised of SJU Faculty members.

STEP 1: Review the eligibility requirements

Please confirm that you are eligible for participation in the Betty G. Headley Award by reviewing the following prerequisites:

 

Course-related Essay ($1,500 Award)

Essays written for any third or fourth year level course taught at St. Jerome's University or any University of Waterloo campus or affiliated institution may be submitted by students currently registered at St. Jerome’s University, Renison University College, or the University of Waterloo. Essays written for courses may be revised prior to submission.

 
Personal Essay ($500 Award)
Personal reflective essays written expressly for this competition by students currently registered at St. Jerome’s University, Renison University College, or University of Waterloo. Personal reflective essays written expressly for this award competition must be identified as such.
