Ambassadors Say... #4
30 Mar, 2017

Welcome to the fourth installment of Ambassadors Say! At St. Jerome's, we understand that you're probably a little bit nervous to start university, even if you're not willing to admit it. We know because we've been in your shoes.

That's why we wanted to share our expertise with you! Now that we all have almost one (or two) years of university completed, we've all learned a lot - about school, about ourselves, and about the SJU community that we're proud to call our home away from home.

Our hope is that with our advice and stories, you'll feel better equipped to tackle university and become an integral part of the St. Jerome's community, just as our Ambassadors have done this year. Consider it our gift to you. Today's question is all about events.

We love our Student Leaders at SJU. Our Student Activities Team, Students' Union, Residence Dons, and Frost Leaders have all planned some sweet events for SJU residents throughout the course of the year. Let's check out some of our Ambassadors' favourites!

Question 4: What has been your favourite SJU event so far, and why?

Ambassadors Say...

My favourite SJ event was when my whole floor got together to celebrate my Don's birthday. We planned the whole party in secret, got her a cake, and card and then surprised her. It was really nice to spend time with the girls on my floor and work together as a community to do something awesome. – Meredith

My favorite event so far has been the Best Friend Challenge! I did this challenge with my friend Bradley and considering we only met at the beginning of the school year, we really knew a lot about each other! It was a good laugh and it definitely brought us closer together. – Bethany
I loved The Best Friend Challenge because it gave me a chance to get to know my friends better and because my friend and I won gift cards! – Jocelyn

When we celebrated earth hour in the tv room! We lit a bunch of tea lights, sat around to play board games and told ghost stories. It was a really fun night, we bonded a lot with the SATs and it was a good reminder to take time away from our phones and computers to be present with our friends.  - Haley

Ryan 5 (my floor) had our own talent show. It was really over the top but it was also a ton of fun. Everyone was totally themselves and extremely supportive of one another. It was so great to see some of my friends overcome their fear of performing and they were all so incredibly talented! Personally, I performed a dramatic reading of the Guide to Troubled Birds and I never would have had the confidence to try comedy without the support of my floor. – Meaghan

My favourite SJU event so far has been the fall formal because you get to dress up for a night, eat food and dance. What could be better than that?!- Sade
SJ Formal was a really fun night. We spent the afternoon hanging out, getting dressed up and making lots of memories. The dinner and dance were a lot of fun too! – Diane

My favourite SJU event so far has been the fall formal, I loved dressing up and getting ready with my floor, and dancing the whole night. It was raining really hard while we were walking to the event, so our floor decided to wear our bright green orientation week ponchos over our fancy dresses. The weird, crazy things my floor does together are the things that are the most memorable. –Lauren Pe.
The fall formal was a lot of fun. It is a great excuse to dress up, dance and have a great time with all your friends – John

Although St. Jerome’s plans many engaging events for the whole residence, each floor also has their own events too! Since my floor is the tea party floor, every tuesday we have a tea party and it is BYOM (bring your own mug, of course). We sit around our don’s room telling stories of our week, share warm and fuzzies, paint mugs and share memes. It truly is one of the highlights of my week and it's is a great way to destress at the end of the week- Sarah SP
There are so many great ones, but I think my favourite one so far has been the two Paint Nights we've had. I don't consider myself an artist in the slightest bit, but it is so much fun and a great way to de-stress. – Brendan
Paint Night. We all followed the instructions of an upper year fine arts student to paint a sunset, and it was so much fun! - Anna
My favourite SJU event so far would probably be paint night! I loved getting the chance to be creative and see the talent that SJ students have and share this experience with them! I also liked how it was interactive and everyone was fully invested in what they were doing – Madie
