Secondary School Liaison Officer, 2 Contract Positions

This is a full-time, short-term contract. Period of employment is from August 6th until December 6th, 2019, and the salary depends on the candidate’s level of experience. This position will require the incumbent to travel alone away from Waterloo for up to three weeks at a time. Successful candidates may be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector (VS) check.

St. Jerome’s University and the University of Waterloo are seeking a number of energetic, enthusiastic individuals who are interested in promoting our university to prospective students in secondary schools across the country. To excel in this position, you should possess well-developed public speaking skills, the ability to relate positively to a variety of different people, the ability to think on your feet and respond quickly to change, as well as an extensive knowledge of and involvement in the University of Waterloo.

Secondary School Liaison Officers report to the Admissions and Recruitment Specialist (St. Jerome’s University), and are co-managed by the Manager, Liaison (Marketing and Undergraduate Recruitment). They work in close co-operation with the St. Jerome’s Recruitment team as well as the Marketing and Undergraduate Recruitment team; Associate Registrar, Admissions; Assistant Registrars; the entire Registrar’s Office staff; and other individuals across campus who have a vested interest in undergraduate recruitment.

As informed representatives of the university, Secondary School Liaison Officers are responsible for providing information and guidance to secondary school students, their parents, and school officials regarding admission policies, academic programs, student life, and other aspects of the university. An extensive training period is scheduled for August and part of September. Specific duties include:

  • Representing the University at Ontario University Regional Fairs (OURFs) throughout Ontario.
  • Visiting secondary schools on an individual basis throughout Ontario to present to students who are interested in finding out more about the University of Waterloo.
  • Participating in the three-day Ontario Universities’ Fair. The 2019 Fair will take place on the weekend of September 27th–29th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
  • Participating in our Fall Open House on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A background in teaching, secondary school liaison/undergraduate recruitment, marketing, sales, public speaking, or public relations would also be helpful.  Your own car is not required; however you must have a valid driver’s license for this position and be at least 21 years old.  This position requires you to travel independently, and to lift and move printed materials (light to moderate lifting). The university covers mileage and expenses.
