COVID-19 Return to Campus EmployeeTraining 
COVID-19 Return to Campus Manager Training

All employees returning to campus are required to:

  • Read, understand and electronically sign off on this training prior to returning to work on campus
    • Once completed and submitted, a copy will be electronically sent to your manager and Human Resources
  • Follow all protocols and procedures listed below
  • Follow all signage posted on campus to minimize the spread of infectious disease, specifically COVID-19

Safety Protocols

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Any required PPE will be provided by SJU.
    • Sanitation wipes will be available for your personal use while on campus
  • Wear a face mask or other face covering that covers your nose, mouth and chin when required.
  • Promote good hygiene by:
    • Washing your hands often with soap and water when hands are visibly soiled, before and after any breaks, at the beginning and end of the workday, and before preparing food, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol content) if hand washing is not possible
    • Sneezing and coughing into your sleeve: When you bury your nose for a cough or sneeze, ensure that you press it firmly to your sleeve. Avoid the possibility of spreading germs into the air by covering your nose and mouth completely.
    • If you use a tissue, discard immediately and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer afterward
    • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth
    • Avoiding high-touch areas, where possible, and ensure you clean your hands after touching high-touch areas
Illness & COVID-19 Reporting
  • If you are ill, do not come to campus. If you become ill while working on campus, go home, seek appropriate medical attention as needed and notify  Occupational Health  immediately. 
  • Employees who experience any symptoms of COVID-19 should follow Public Health guidelines and self-isolate as required using the guidance in the UW Employee Protocols for COVID-19 Cases and Exposures document
  • All employees must be aware of the symptoms of COVID-19 and the importance of reporting symptoms and/or absences to their manager before the beginning of the first day absent
  • When reporting illness or absence to your manager, confidentiality of personal information will be maintained at all times per PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act)

Safety Protocols

  • Maintain current contact information for all direct reports
  • Monitor employee adherence to physical distancing and mask wearing
  • Encourage open dialogue with employees to address concerns and reinforce expectations
  • In consultation with Human Resources, implement corrective actions if non-conformance occurs to these guidelines

Illness & COVID-19 Reporting

  • Ensure that employees stay home if they are sick and are aware of the importance of reporting symptoms and/or absences to their manager before the beginning of the first day absent 
  • Ensure that employees who experience any symptoms of COVID-19 follow Public Health guidelines and self-isolate as required using the guidance in the UW Employee Protocols for COVID-19 Cases and Exposures document
  • Managers and employees are reminded that a positive test result is a medical diagnosis, and must be treated confidentially, including not sharing this with any co-workers, and only Occupational Health and/or Region of Waterloo Public Health (ROWPH) per PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act)
