Board Thanks Scott Kline for his Leadership as Interim President

Date: Friday, August 14, 2020

St. Jerome’s board of Governors extends its sincere thanks to Dr. Scott Kline for his leadership in the role of Interim President.

Last summer, Dr. Kline assumed his interim presidential role with a deep understanding of St. Jerome’s and commitment to the Catholic intellectual tradition in university education.  Dr. Kline first joined St. Jerome’s in 2002 as a faculty member in the department of Religious Studies, and held the position of Vice President Academic and Dean from 2013—to 2019.  Knowing St. Jerome’s as he does, Dr. Kline was able to provide significant leadership throughout all aspects of the university.

As Interim President, Dr. Kline engaged the SJU community in constructive dialogue in town halls, team meetings and one on one conversations.  He championed SJU in the local, national and international university communities, as well as with local KW partners. Among Dr. Kline’s achievements this year are the establishment of the President’s Task force on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (fall 2019) and the raising of the PRIDE flag (June 2020).

When COVID 19 necessitated the closing of our buildings and a shift in our methods of service to students, Dr. Kline ensured that the focus of St. Jerome’s was on the health and well- being of all of our community.  To all challenges Dr. Kline has brought a steadfast and thoughtful analysis, consistent with our mission.

We thank Dr. Kline as well for working together with our new President, Dr. Peter Meehan to facilitate a meaningful transition. Peter points out that “Scott’s will be big shoes to fill.  It is so clear to me already the great work that he has done to bring this community together during a period of transition and a period of crisis.  I know that I will be relying on his wisdom in the years to come.”

We would be remiss if we did not also recognize the significant contributions made by Dr. Kline’s family with all of their support this past year.  Thank you Megan and boys!

Our best wishes to Dr. Kline as he embarks on a period of research and study before returning to teach at St. Jerome’s.  We look forward to welcoming him back!
