Introducing the New Members of the Experience Guide Team!
04 Feb, 2020

Experience Guides work closely with the outreach and recruitment department, Rebecca Rucurean the Admissions and Recruitment Specialist, Olivia Carvalhal the Admissions & Recruitment Coordinator and the Outreach and Recruitment Associate who this term is Madie Bennett. Experience Guides provide tours of our campus to prospective students, sharing their experience along the way. “Being an Experience Guide is an excellent way to get involved in the community, share your enthusiasm with visiting students, and foster your professional and personal development, regardless of your academic program. ” Experience Guides communicate to prospective students what it means to be apart of the St. Jerome’s community. Most Importantly Experience Guides work as part of a team with their fellow experience guides as well as their ceo (Chief Experience Officers). Together as a team they are able to enhance outreach and recruitment at St. Jerome’s. This term we looked to hire some new members for  our team and I am glad to introduce you to the new members of the 2019-2020 experience guide team!

Hi! I’m in Health Studies, I intend to pursue a pre-clinical specialization with a minor in biology. I have played baseball for the past 10 years, and I’m an umpire as well (6 years). I’m from Toronto, and I enjoy going downtown to look at museums and galleries.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role as an experience guide?

I’m looking forward to welcoming new students and introducing them to the amazing “SJ feeling,” as it’s truly like no other. I’m also looking forward to working XG subteam and getting to know them better.

What is one thing you would want every prospective student to know about St. Jerome's ?

We have house competitions (like in Harry Potter!)

What is your favourite location in campus and why?

Sweeney Lounge is a comfy place to study, and hosts fun events during the week

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I’m Tess and I’m a first year biochemistry student in my 1B term! I’ve been living at St Jermones since September and I’m absolutely in love! I’m from the Niagara region so thankfully I’m not too far from home. During my spare time I like to fry my brain with Netflix and Disney plus, go on hikes with friends, have movie marathons and explore Waterloo! A few fun facts about me, my favourite shoes are crocs no matter what the season, I make kraft dinner in the buttery every chance I get, my favourite snack is goldfish crackers and sometimes I dream in black and white!

What are you most looking forward to in your new role as an experience guide?

I’m excited to meet new people and getting to show new students everything there is to love about SJU! I can’t wait to share my experiences with SJU, about the transition from high school to university and the science faculty! Overall, I’m excited to be in a new leadership role that I can carry towards other leadership roles in upper years!

What is one thing you would want every prospective student to know about St. Jerome's ?

I’d love every student to know how fresh, local and homemade our food is! All of our food is made the day off and is from local areas! Our cafeteria is also a green space which means we have reduced our use of plastics and water!

What is your favourite location in campus and why?

My favourite location is the new SJU library! It’s newly renovated and is super quite and comfortable to study in! Thankfully not many people from regular campus know it exists, making it very spacious!

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi! My name's Catherine I'm from Mississauga and I'm in my 1B term of ARBUS. I plan on doing a major in Speech Communication, a minor in International Trade, and a minor in Knowledge Integration. When not working, I love to read, watch Netflix, and hang out with friends.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role as an experience guide?

I'm most looking forward to meeting all the prospective students who are considering joining the SJU community as I remember how impactful touring SJU was for me and my decision to come here. I always love trying new things and embracing new experiences, so I can't wait to see how I can grow within this role.

What is one thing you would want every prospective student to know about St. Jerome's ?

That St. Jerome's thrives off of community energy and that all of the staff, student leaders, and residents have a role to play in that. These efforts made by everyone make SJU feel less like a residence or university and more like home.

What is your favourite location in campus and why?

I really love the SJU library! As it's a beautiful new space full of lots of study space and is conveniently located super close to residence and the funcken cafe!

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I’m a first year computer science student at Waterloo. In the future, my goal would be to work with self-driving cars because I find that stuff fascinating. Aside from all that, in my free time I really enjoy playing basketball, video games and just hanging out with my friends. I look forward to being your tour guide! I’m sure you’ll love it at St. Jeromes :)

What are you most looking forward to in your new role as an experience guide?

As an experience guide, I’m most looking forward to being able to help prospective student feel less nervous and more reassured about the whole first year university experience.

What is one thing you would want every prospective student to know about St. Jerome's ?

If you’re chilling in your room during the day, keep your door open from time to time. You’d be surprised with how many great people you’ll end up meeting just by having your doors open. Who knows, they might even become your closest friends!

What is your favourite location in campus and why?

The St. Jeromes library is my favourite place on campus. It’s peaceful, not too crowded and just has a calm vibe to it, which really helps during stressful weeks.
