Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much are Residence Fees?

$4,645 – Double occupancy (based on 2011-2012 fees).
The Residence Fees are per term (4 months), and include your room equipped with a refrigerator, wireless ResNet Internet service and meal plan. All Residence Contracts are two-term commitments.

2. What is the deposit for? Is it part of the residence fees?

The $500.00 deposit is required to confirm and secure your residence accommodation. It will be credited back to your UW fee statement for your first term in residence.

3. How are roommates allocated?

The Residence Manager and our Residence Dons go over the data submitted as part of the "Confirmation and Lifestyles Preferences Form" completed online at the time you receive your offer from St. Jerome's (on or after June 8, 2011). Based on the information provided, we will match roommates with compatible interests and life styles. If you and a friend are both offered residence here, and you would like to room with each other, please indicate this on the "Roommate Selection" tab of the confirmation form and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

4. When may I move in?

You are welcome to move into residence anytime after 9:00 a.m. on the Sunday of the Labour Day weekend. No one will be allowed to move in prior to this. The first meal will be breakfast on the Monday of the Labour Day weekend from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Advance notice is greatly appreciated.

NOTE: The residences will NOT be open for tours/visits during August.

6. Can I find out my roommate or room number before I move in?

For security and privacy reasons, we cannot release any roommate or room number information. Please be advised that roommate and room allocations are not done until the final days before the term starts.

7. What is the Residence Handbook? When do I get a Residence Handbook?

The handbook is a reference and policy document designed to provide you with all the information you need about residence accommodation and residence life at St. Jerome’s University. The handbook can be viewed electronically by clicking here.

8. What is the Residence Council?

The Residence Council is a working group composed of representatives from each floor of the residences, the Dons and the Residence Manager. All social activities, community events, special dinners etc., are wholly or in part, organized and financially supported by the Residence Council. A compulsory activity fee of $50 per term is added to each resident's fees and is collected by the University on behalf of the Residence Council. This fee supports the Council and its efforts to enhance residence life. This activity fee includes, among other events, a residence yearbook and a ticket to our annual residence formal.

9. What is Orientation or Frosh Week?

These are events organized by our upper year students to introduce our new students to the community and to university life. It is a great way to start yourself off at University! For residence students the fee for Orientation Week will be added to your UW fee statement for the fall term. If you have any questions about St. Jerome’s Orientation week please contact the residence office.
