The research focus of Dr. Scott Kline, Religious Studies professor and director of the Intercordia program, is on the role of religion in international affairs. The relationship between religion and intervention in centres of crisis has been one of his long-standing concerns. Recently awarded a grant by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Kline and his collaborator Dr. Jim Reimer of Conrad Grebel College , are undertaking a "re-thinking" of "humanitarian intervention and Christian Aid Organizations." |

| The project, which examines the "ambiguous roles that Christian humanitarian organizations play in military interventions and post-intervention situations," is an important response to current conditions. Since 1989, military intervention to deliver humanitarian aid has been on the rise and is considered a global necessity, but the U.N. has reformed its approach, downplaying the provision of aid and emphasizing the need to protect those in crisis situations around the world. Kline and Reimer's research aims to help aid organizations rethinking their operations as they try to meet humanitarian needs without being seen as compliant with the military intervention. | |
