In December 2011, St. Mary's General Hospital was placed among the five safest hospitals in Canada in a report released by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in its annual report on Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio (HSMR). This panel will discuss how patient safety is safeguarded in the hospital setting and examine what happens when there is an outbreak of a hospital acquired infection. It will also examine what practices St. Mary's has employed to be so effective.
St. Mary's General Hospital is a leader in health care excellence, with a reputation for providing compassionate and innovative care consistent with the Catholic traditions and values of the Sisters of St. Joseph. In November 2010, St. Mary's launched a bold new Strategic Plan designed around the vision of making St. Mary's General Hospital the safest and most effective hospital in Canada, characterized by innovation, compassion and respect. Quality and Safety is one of the four Strategic Directions they are pursuing to achieve this vision.
This lecture is held in partnership with St. Mary's General Hospital.
