SJU Community Commons

What is the SJU Community Commons?

SJU Community Commons is a way for students to get to know students either registered at SJU or once lived at SJU. Students will get to know their peers from first year all the way to 4th, 5th or even 6th year! SJU Community Commons hosts numerous events as a large group and attends many other events hosted by other Student Leader Groups at St. Jerome’s. There are a variety of activities from Coffee Houses to Skiing trips or even a brown bag lunch special!

What is a House?

SJU Community Commons is made up of 4 ‘houses’. (Just think Harry Potter!!) Each House has been named after a significant member to SJU. (To read more about these individuals click here.) In each House there is a Head of House (HOH) and many coordinators. These students are here to plan activities, answer questions and to help you build friendships with numerous others! (Do note you are not actually living with these people.) There is The Den (Room 1026) where students can meet with their House and Commons members! Meet your HOH here!

Who is part of the SJU Community Commons?

Currently, all 3rd year students registered at St. Jerome’s or who lived at St. Jerome’s are part of the Commons and will remain in their House until they graduate. Those students entering their first year at St. Jerome’s, who will not be living in residence, will be part of the Commons. Those who are living in St. Jerome’s residence will have the opportunity to join a House when they no longer live in St. Jerome’s residence. For those who were accidentally missed or in their upper years and want to be part of a House may ask Amanda to add them to the mailing list. (ajgrobbecker@uwaterloo.ca)

Why be part of this?

For starters it is a great place to meet other people who have similar interests as yourself…ie) we ALL love SJU! Also, the more involved you are, the better chance your House has of winning the Commons Cup in March!!!
