Religious Studies at St. Jerome's University involves the exploration of the world's religions from a variety of perspectives. The classes are open to all and students need not belong to any particular religious community. While St. Jerome's professors specialize in contemporary Christianity and especially Roman Catholicism, they teach many of the world's religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Islam, and others.
Recent international events have reminded people about the importance of religion and its intersection with politics, economics, and social development. Professors of Religious Studies at St. Jerome's are particularly interested in how religion participates in modern questions regarding politics and social justice, peace-making and international relations, the ecological crisis, social values, sexual ethics, theology and popular culture. Moreover, the department is committed to helping students put their faith and learning into action. As a result, the new Beyond Borders Program at St. Jerome's allows students to receive university credit for working with marginalized populations in countries such as Ecuador, Ukraine, Belize, Brazil, and Honduras, to name a few.
