Each institution in the CASTL program is assigned to a theme group. This group is comprised of other universities whose work in the scholarship of teaching and learning is focussed in a similar area. St. Jerome's is part of the Liberal Education: Core Curriculum group. As we begin our three-year mandate in the CASTL program, the Liberal Education: Core Curriculum group has articulated the following description of our commitment to liberal arts education. "The Liberal Education: Core Curriculum group begins with the definition of liberal learning offered by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) as one of education that is 'characterized by challenging encounters with important issues, and more a way of studying than a specific course or field of study.' The group will investigate the uses of the scholarship of teaching and learning to develop, advance, and sustain liberal learning in different iinstitutional contexts and with different goals."
