Name: Joanne Benham Rennick
Position: Director, Beyond Borders Program and Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at St. Jerome's University in the University of Waterloo
A Little about Joanne: Joanne has a long history of involvement with and interest in issues of local and global development. Starting with her own volunteer work in the Middle East as an undergraduate student, she learned the inestimable value of living and learning in a global context. This experience lead her to engage in programs dedicated to social justice and development including teaching English as a second language, training new immigrants in skills to ease their transition into Canadian society, and working with children and adults with disabilities. Her most recent research trips have taken her to India, Peru, Kenya, and Uganda. She currently holds a Wabash Centre grant, in collaboration with the Global Studies program at Wilfrid Laurier University, to run the "Good Global Citizenship" think tank that involves faculty and staff from universities across Canada who provide international learning opportunities to students. Her main areas of research are the sociology of religion, religion in Canada, and modern forms of religious experience. She believes passionately in the idea that we must be the change we want to see in the world and invites you to join us on the Beyond Borders journey!
