IIn the past decade, Ambassador Chowdhury has made promoting a culture of peace his hallmark. His work inspired the 1999 United Nations General Assembly adoption of the “Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace,” the “International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World (2001-2010),” and the groundbreaking UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on the role of women in peace and security. Tonight’s lecture will focus on Ambassador Chowdhury’s commitment to promoting peace around the world.
Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury, former Under-Secretary-General and High Representative of the United Nations, was Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York from 1996 to 2001.
